Russia. Catherine II, the Great. 1762-1796. AE 5 kopeks (40.3 mm, 46.50 g, 12 h). Ekaterinburg Mint, 1780-EM. ПЯТЬ КОПЕЕКЪ on banner, Crowned imperial double eagle, holding sceptre and orb, and with coat-of-arms on breast; crown above / Monogram within wreath. Bit 631. EF, some roughness. 

During her reign, Catherine extended the borders of the Russian empire southward and westward to absorb New Russia, Crimea, Right-Bank Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, and Courland at the expense of two competing powers- the Ottoman Empire and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. All told, she added some 200,000 miles (518,000 km) to Russian territory.
