Crowned Imperial monogram of Cathrine II "The Great", splitting date (17-75) in fields; all within wreath / Large crown above crowned double-headed Russian eagle holding imperial staff and orb; E-M in field below, banner with denomination written in Cryllic beneath. During her reign, Catherine extended the borders of the Russian empire southward and westward to absorb New Russia, Crimea, Right-Bank Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, and Courland at the expense of two competing powers- the Ottoman Empire and the Polish-Lithuanian h1BCommonwealth. All told, she added some 200,000 miles (518,000 km) to Russian territory.
