Persia. Qajar Period Carnelian intaglio/Talisman. C. 1850-1900 C.E. 42 x 33 mm. Oval talisman with tapered face with the Al-Nas, the 114th and last sura, or chapter, of the Qur'an. The inscription is in Nastaliq script of and translates as "In the name of Allah, the most gracious, most merciful, say I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, The king of mankind, The true god of mankind, From the evil of the sneaking whisper, who whispereth in the hears of mankind Of the jinn and mankind." Some wear on original inking. Ex-Vlahovici-Jones Collection.
